Ground textures don’t exhibit the normal mapping or POM we’d expect, and are flat and boring tiled. However, we’re not looking to nitpick here – at 1080p we had a wonderfully smooth and maximum experience, and the game always remained perfectly playable in 4K. SSAA 4X does not seem to have a noticeable impact on performance, and offers AA coverage that looks suspiciously like FXAA, which tells us that a.) it’s probably is FXAA, and b.) Hello Games weren’t kidding that it took longer on the PC version. However, there appear to be a few broken features.
It performs about as well as any other eighth gen multiplat we’ve tried. We also tested the game on our 4K TV and it delivered a very respectable mid-1940s frame rate. On our 980 Ti test bench, No Man’s Sky hits a lockdown of 83 FPS (yes, monitor overclocking!) at 1080p. To be fair, we haven’t encountered anything like it from a distance. They seemed to have missed a few spots because a lot of people started talking about excruciating PC performance. While Is give us a little urge to put on a tin foil hat and shout “Timed exclusivity!” »The truth is that Hello Games is a very small team, and they were literally working until the last moment to take care of the PC version of the game. Hello Games has delayed the PC release for three days compared to the game’s launch on PlayStation 4. It might not be everything people claim to be, but it truly is a gaming experience unlike any other. No Man’s Sky is nothing, if not remarkable.
