The collection has been arranged into nine series: Writing (1975-1998, n.d.), Correspondence (1971-1998, n.d.), Promotional Material (1975-1998, n.d.), Research Material (1929-1998, n.d.), Artist Development Inc. Typescripts, correspondence, clippings, photographs, sound recordings, printed material, handwritten notes, ephemera, and artifacts, 1929 to 1998 (bulk 1975-1995), created and maintained by Joe Nick Patoski, document much of his writing career, as well as some aspects of his business and personal life. Other items will require copyright status determined on a case- by -case basis. JNP holds copyright for Selena materials he wrote and created, and half of the Caught in the Crossfire materials he wrote and created with co-author Bill Crawford. He has made numerous donations over the years and his collection is one of the major archives at the Wittliff. Patoski began donating his literary papers to the Southwestern Writers Collection/Wittliff Collections in 1993. He lives near the village of Wimberley in the Texas Hill Country where he swims and paddles in the Blanco River. His most recent book is The Dallas Cowboys: The Outrageous History of the Biggest, Loudest, Most Hated, Best Loved Football Team in America, published in 2012 by Little, Brown.Ī long-time writer for Texas Monthly, Patoski's byline has also appeared in many other magazines and newspapers. He has also published Generations on the Land: A Conservation Legacy (Texas A&M Press) and Texas High School Football: More Than the Game (Texas Historical Commission). He has collaborated with photographer Laurence Parent on books about the Texas Mountains, the Texas Coast, and Big Bend National Park, all published by University of Texas Press. He has authored biographies of Willie Nelson and Selena, and he has co-authored a biography of Stevie Ray Vaughan. Joe Nick Patoski is an award-winning journalist and author who is widely considered a leading expert on Texas, particularly with his reporting and writing on music, the environment, and myriad aspects of Texas culture.
